Wendy Shirey is an elementary school principal living in Southern Nevada. She has spent thirteen years in the classroom, two years in central office, and five years in administration. She loves helping​ students achieve and enjoys working with families to help their students grow and learn. Wendy has worked to build a strong sense of community at her school and has hosted block parties, festivals, art shows, and community events to bring the community together. You can find her walking in local parades with her school, working tables at school choice fairs, and participating in community activities to spread the word about her school. She has received over three million dollars in grant funding to support initiatives at her school and at nearby campuses in her school system. She believes in dreaming big, making plans, and taking steps to make the dreams come true. In 2018, Principal Wendy Shirey became the first Nevada educator to receive the Milken Educator Award in the state of Nevada since 2009. Wendy Shirey is a graduate of the University of Wyoming, Grand Canyon University, and Nova Southeastern University. Wendy enjoys spending time with her husband and family, reading, writing, crocheting, and canning fruits and applesauce in her spare time. She also enjoys spending time with her miniature dachshund and dachshund/ German Shepard mix.
